Help me help you…again

Bike helmet

Is it copyright infringement if you plagiarize your own title?

You can never be too safe in here; plus, I’m paranoid because I have been using Google Images for my photos. I know, I know; it’s not only wrong to steal but even worse not to give credit to who you stole the pic from. I have even read several posts regarding this, hoping to find an easy solution to keep me out of jail legal.

Have I ever told you how lazy and cheap I am? Well guess what, every single one of those free sights still require just about two steps too many of work and that turned me off real quick. Plus, the pictures weren’t as good.

If I have to resort to just using pictures I have taken from my iPhone I will certainly do so. Yes, my head really is that big, but the double chin might be a mirage…:).

I don’t really want to help you

If you haven’t figured it out by now you sure don’t want me telling you what to do.

But I do need help myself. I miss you guys.

I hit the wall because it was all just a bunch of hooey and whatever I was doing was not only not gaining any traction, I was starting to regress at a pretty good clip.

But I really do have a message, and it’s ‘don’t try this at home.’

A boat without a rudder

It’s hard to get where you are going in a boat without a rudder, don’t you think?

That’s kind of where I am right now. First quarter this year was lights out; rock-n-roll. Second quarter, not so much so. Good news is, I’m still on goal but know that I have to keep the pedal to the metal to reach the finish line.

However, since I have quit being active in social I have felt somewhat lost, without direction. But I’m also wondering if this malaise is what caused me to drop out in the first place.

I feel fine and I’m still Mr Happy, but does depression put you in a rudderless funk at times? If so, can it be cured with beer and/or whiskey?

Just suck it up, right?

How do you get the wagon wheel out of the rut?

Nude skydiving during halftime at the Super Bowl?

That might shake it up.

Quit my job and become a professional slacker blogger?

Just kidding dear, nobody is quitting their job until I pass the baton off to the kid. Maybe I’ll just take the next 6 months off……what? It looks like you already have….why I never…..

Maybe it’s the summer doldrums; it just seems it started before the summer and is still lingering like a smelly fart in a crowded elevator stuck between floors.

Where’s the excitement?

I am a pretty low maintenance kind of guy and it doesn’t take much to please me, but maybe if I cash in my 401k and start buying lottery tickets as my ongoing investment strategy that will shake things up, huh?

Enough about me, what about you? How’s your summer going? Have you won the lottery yet?

What if I faked my death and made my wife a rich and single woman and lived my days chasing bears at Amber-Lee Dibble’s Wilderness Adventure? That would be different I suppose. I wonder if you can see Russia from there? Maybe I could be a double-naught spy?

Can you tell I am meandering? That’s what happens when bodies start slapping you are piloting a rudderless boat.

Is it still good to be you? It’s still good to be me, there’s just a lot of change going on around me and none of which I can control that is unsettling at times, but with my hair how can it be a bad thing?

Stay thirsty my friend.

  1. You’re great, Bill! I love reading your stuff. You just make me smile. I say do whatever you feel like doing whenever you feel like it. You have a good solid core, you won’t need to think about the consequences much! (I mean that you probably wouldn’t do anything stupid or hurtful to yourself or anyone else!). You’re a good guy and make every day better when you show up!

    • Thanks for the kind words of encouragement Betsy. Also thanks for stopping by.

I am wandering a little bit, but will find my bearings again one of these days.

  2. Hey Bill, Yea, you know I often thought about how rudderless I would feel without The Wonder of Tech. My blog keeps me out of trouble. I get to test cool tech without wiping out my bank account. That’s the same as winning the lottery, right?

So glad to see you back, Bill! We’re here with open arms whenever you want to make an appearance/grand entrance/just hang out.

Maybe I got this wrong, but didn’t you hand the baton over to your son already? Isn’t it time he paid back dear ol’ dad by chipping into your HeyPal account?

    Your writing is still superb.

    • In certain areas, I did get kind of lazy without my blog which I’m prone to do.

My son has a ways to go, but he’ll make it. There are so many things to learn that I forgot about because so much of it is just second nature to me now.

Good to see you; your support has always been very much appreciated.

  3. Well Agent 86, you know how I feel about this topic. I’ve written about it in my blog, most recently with my post

It’s a juggling act for sure, bobbing and weaving, dipping in and out. I’ve maintained my number one priority, which is to write without the self-editor in me taking command. And I love the friends, associates and community that this crazy online world has introduced me too. But with the sheer proliferation of “stuff” online, the see-me-me-too yadayadayada, it can get wearying. That’s why I’ve backed away, but not gone away.

You seem to be handling it in your own unique Billyboy way. You show up when you want to, and you’ve got a loyal community and friends who will always be here. Maybe you just need to dip in and out as you do now, and allow things to flow as they will. Either that, or the nude skydiving…be sure to take photos. Cheers! Snowshoes

    • The funny thing is, I have 5 posts that I have written since I’ve been gone and just never got around to hitting publish. I felt if I did it would just drag me back in again. Even though I learned from the best but didn’t necessarily follow the directions, I feel I have ‘enough’ of a presence to make it worthwhile.

We’ll just have to see I suppose; thanks for the drive-by ma’am.

  4. We’re always here for you. You know where to find us when you need us, but I’m not against seeking people who drop off the online planet. πŸ™‚

    • That I do; I still see everybody in the blogosphere. It’s just a transnational time for me right now and we’ll have to see where it takes me.

I hope all is well with you.

  5. Hi Bill

Oh my goodness…you are a lost soul. I don’t know if you need a rudder, may be just a paddle. That is all you need to steer a canoe. Wow, and your Alexa ranking took a beating also! Before they haul you away, you can get decent pictures on Free Digital Photos, just give them credit. Of course may be you do look good in orange or may be it is stripes where you are at. LOL

Miss your wit and I see you miss us…ah….! Well I guess you could do something crazy for fun and tell us about it. That would satisfy two of your needs…adventure and writing.

    • A paddle whack upside the head, huh?

At least in orange I’ll get three squares a day and a roof over my head and all I have to do is show up…which I’m so good at…:).

Good to see you Ms Mary.

  6. Dude. You need to catch a glimpse of “Git Yo Ass Up that Mountain” ~ My latest lil project that is driving me nuts (but motivating the heck right outta me!). Anyhow, me and my enlightened state of mind have been staying out of the local Calaboose by not simply knocking some sense into some of the young’uns with the handy axe handle I have hangin’ by the door, but instead I am using “reason”. (Yeah, that was sarcasm.)

Anyhow. Summer Blues. I get them about now too, Bill. Our Summer is over. It is all business now. The hard, dangerous stuff. The stuff that makes you question everything you have ever believed about anything. And yet.

And yet, I also know that this too will pass and we’ll be way too busy to be sad or worried about anything. Then, when October rolls into position, we’ll settle into the new-old routine and brag on all the exciting and incredible discoveries…

Oh, and maybe I read something else into this post too, but what kinda pictures would you like me to search for this year, for ya? Then you wont have to whine about “expensive” or “dull”, LOL!

    • I will take any and all pictures if it keeps me ‘legal,’ otherwise you might be stuck w/ me…:).

Fitness, fun I’m doing a lot of; professionally I’ve hit a lull and just trying to find the right go-juice to get me excited about everything again. In this business, a few new sales always does the trick; maybe I’ll have some success over the next 30-60 days that will get me jazzed again.

Good to see you Amber-Lee; good luck with your season and stay safe.

  7. Well Mr. Dorman, I went from being relatively quiet to writing up a storm again. It is all cyclical. The way I see it you are back to trying to earn your moniker as the Invisible blogger. πŸ˜‰

  8. Glad to see your back Bill – I think it keeps you sane right? I’ve gone through that recently too, nothing exciting going on – the other night I got text from someone I know that said “How’s the party?” And I thought, “What party, no party going on here….” Then I learned I was supposed to be a cousins birthday party, oops! Not like me, felt like I lost my mojo. Maybe that’s what happened to you Bill πŸ™‚

    • Or keeps me insane, which I seem to be able to function much better in that state…:).

When I was hot and heavy in social it truly blurred the lines between online and off and sometimes I couldn’t tell if I was coming or going. Getting off the hamster wheel has helped cut down on some of the white noise.

I’m looking for my mojo; maybe a year sabbatical backpacking Europe will get it back, huh?

  9. Hey Bill,

We miss you too! I’ve had a very busy summer so far and this past weekend was our family reunion and I bought all the food so I’ve been rather busy lately. Have already taken two trips and then took Mom to her 71st high school reunion. That was just a day trip but it still wore me out. The heat it horrible, just drains you. Okay, it drains me alright!

I think you need to pop in at least once a month and give us all hell. You entertain so well, no one does it like you my friend.

Hang in there and get that mojo back! I know you’ve got it in you.

  10. It’s coming to the end of winter here in Australia, which is great because I don’t like the cold.

I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this one yet, but I recently found out about morguefile for pictures. – it looks pretty good.

We all need to rest and recharge. I’d be interested to hear more from you in the future.
